PlanningProduction Forecast Excel Template
Use this Excel production forecast template to record demand, compare entered plans and actuals, and review calculated open exceptions before release.
This Excel workbook records product demand before production release. On Forecast Input, users enter product demand identifiers, reporting periods, owner or responsible roles, work order or run IDs, planned values, actual values, units, and status progression.
Entered values produce quantity variance, time variance, an execution register, and an open exception list. Actual values are compared with entered planned values. The workbook is available as an Excel file for offline planning.
This is a bounded operational aid for product demand through production forecast. It does not provide resource loading by date, a multi-day resource schedule, late-order risk, or rescheduling exceptions.

How to use the workbook
1. Remove the sample records
Open Forecast Input. Rows 6 through 14 contain sample records. Replace or clear those nine rows before entering records for use.
2. Enter demand identification
Enter Product Demand Identifier, Reporting Period, Owner or Responsible Role, and Work Order or Run ID. Reporting Period displays in m/d/Y format.
3. Enter plans and actuals
Enter planned quantity, planned time, or both. Enter a Quantity Unit when Planned Quantity is entered. Enter a Time Unit when Planned Time is entered. Use the same entered unit for the matching planned and actual value.
4. Set status and check results
Select Planned, In Progress, or Complete for Status Progression. Review Quantity Variance, Time Variance, and Planned-versus-Actual Checks / Exception Status. Update Forecast Input rather than Execution Register.
Production forecast demand entries
Forecast Input records one product demand entry per row. The displayed labels cover identification, reporting period, responsible role, work order or run ID, planned and actual quantities, planned and actual times, units, and status progression.
Enter units explicitly. The workbook does not convert units or total unlike units.
Planned-versus-actual checks
The Planned-versus-Actual Checks / Exception Status result can show Open - invalid date or numeric input, Open - missing required input, Open - missing plan, Open - missing unit, Open - missing actual, or Open - plan/actual difference.
Pending and No exception are also displayed results. Pending applies to Planned or In Progress records when no higher-priority open exception applies. No exception applies to Complete records when entered planned and actual values match.
Dashboard and execution register
Dashboard displays Total Demand Records, Planned, In Progress, Complete, Open Exceptions, and No Exception. Its Open Exception List shows records with an Exception Status beginning with Open -.
Execution Register is for visibility and exception follow-up. Its displayed labels include the demand identifier, reporting period, planned and actual measures, variances, status progression, and exception status.
Scope before production release
This workbook covers product demand through production forecast before production release. Its stated outputs are an execution register and an open exception list.
It is not a production schedule. It does not own work orders, resource loading by date, multi-day resource scheduling, late-order risk, or rescheduling exception lists.

Yes. Forecast Input rows 6 through 14 contain nine sample records. The sample demand identifiers, roles, and run IDs are examples. Replace or clear them before using those rows.
Enter Product Demand Identifier, Reporting Period, Owner or Responsible Role, Work Order or Run ID, planned quantity or planned time, related units, actual quantity or actual time when available, and Status Progression.
Quantity Variance is labeled Actual - Planned. Time Variance is also labeled Actual - Planned. Results display only when the related planned and actual values are numeric.
An Open - result identifies a condition listed in the Instructions sheet, including missing values, missing units, missing plans, missing actuals, invalid date or numeric input, or a difference between entered planned and actual values.
Make updates on Forecast Input. The Execution Register sheet states, “Do not type in this register. Update Forecast Input instead.”
